Program Details

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Proof of online completion is required of candidates throughout the course sessions for class admittance. Candidates must be at least 15 years of age on the last day of class and able to complete all prerequisite requirements for admittance to the course. Course Prerequisites: Swim continuously 300 yards using either front crawl or breaststroke. Tread water for 2 minutes, using only legs. Complete a timed event in 1 min. 40 secs (Goggles are NOT allowed) Starting in water, swim 20 yards. Surface dive 7-10 ft. to retrieve a 10lb object Return to surface and swim 20 yds. on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface.
